Welcome

What are the vaccination requirements?

For the health and safety of all pets that stay with us we require all immunizations to be current for:

Dogs Cats

Rabies
Booster (parvo, para influenza, distemper)
Bordetella

Rabies
Booster (distemper, calici, rhinetrach)

We will need to see your pet’s current vaccination papers at the time of check in.

Do I need to bring my pets food?

Feeding: Dog

We provide Horizon Complete Adult Formula. However, you may provide your own dry and/or canned food. We will feed your food at no extra cost. Do not bring your own dishes as they may not get returned to you. The kennel will provide stainless steel food and water dishes for you pet.

Feeding: Cat

We provide Nutro Max Adult Formula. However, you may provide your own dry and/or canned food. There is no extra charge for bringing your own food and the kennel will provide food and water dishes.

Can I bring Toys / Bedding / Crates etc.?

Belongings are left at owners own risk. The kennel will supply bedding as we would prefer you not bring your own from home. Toys are welcome and must be larger than a tennis ball to prevent them from sliding under the kennel panels. We do recommend a limit of one or two toys. Travel kennels or crates will not be accepted, however we will store your pets travel crate during the boarding stay.

Please follow these tips to help ensure a comfortable and happy homecoming!

CATS

Indoor/Outdoor
Most cats adapt easily to being home again. However, if your cat is allowed outdoors, keep her exclusively inside for a few days after returning home.

DOGS

Relief
Give your dog a chance to relieve himself outside before getting into your vehicle for the ride home.

Some dogs experience an upset tummy from the change of food. If so, offer bland foods like boiled chicken and rice. Or, you can try withholding food for 12-24 hours to give his system a chance to rest. Call your veterinarian to discuss whether an over-the-counter anti-diarrhea medicine is appropriate.

Sleep
After the excitement of being away, it’s normal for your dog to sleep more than usual for the first few days after returning home.

Coughing
If your dog starts coughing within a week of coming home, he may have tracheobronchitis, (kennel cough) a contagious condition in dogs similar to the common cold in humans. The condition is not contagious to humans. Symptoms include:

  • Dry, hacking cough
  • Discharge from the eyes or nose
  • Lethargic behavior
  • Loss of appetite

If you notice any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

All dogs staying at Expressway Kennels must be vaccinated against tracheobronchitis. However, the Bordetella vaccine does not provide protection against all of the viruses that can cause this disease, so a dog may become ill even if he’s been vaccinated. Expressway Kennels follows strict sanitation procedures. However, no amount of supervision, sanitation or personalized care by any boarding facility can prevent a dog from catching an airborne virus.

Besides when I vacation, what are some other occasions when I could use Expressway Kennels?

There are lots of times when Expressway Kennels can help. Here are a few suggestions (but, we know after you try us, you'll think of more occasions to come visit):

  • Business travel
  • Holidays, birthday parties, other special events when you don't want to worry about your four-legged friend getting in the snack bowl!
  • Allergic house guests
  • Work done to the house (i.e., carpets or pool being cleaned, sprayed for bugs)
  • Showing the house for sale/moving
  • A new baby in the house; your pet (and YOU) need time to adjust
  • A new puppy that needs socialization with other dogs
  • An older dog or "only child" that could benefit from some exercise and socialization
